3 general season moose permits are available for 2008
and will be auctioned to the highest bidders

Your bid amount is for the moose permit only and includes the following:
• 5 consecutive day hunt
• Meat processing (shipping and taxidermy is additional cost)
• State hunting licenses are not required on Penobscot Nation land.
• Deadline to bid: July 1, 2008, 4pm
• Drawing: July 2, 2008, 8am
• Successful bidders will be contacted by certified mail.

Penobscot Nation land encompasses over 130,000 acres of pristine and majestic Maine wilderness which are divided into 8 separate territories. Our moose hunting territories are located within the following Maine State Wildlife Management Districts: WMD’s 5, 10, 18, and 19.

General season opens during the peak rut: October 6-10th, 2008. Our general season falls in between the state’s general season, ensuring the only moose hunters in Maine this week are on Penobscot land!

Penobscot Indian Nation Moose Stats
1000+ pound moose are regularally harvested on Penobscot Indian Nation land including state record holders. Below are a list of a few moose stats gathered by our big game biologist over the past few years.


Largest Antler Spread: 50 inch plus spreads recorded every season
Average Age of Harvested Moose: 3.5 years
Sex Ratios: 3:1 (M to F)
Herd size: 40,000 animals statewide
Tribal success ratios: 97% overall
State success ratios: 79% antlerless, 89% antler
